THE EYE EXAMINATION
Before you can be fit with contact lenses, a complete dilated and refractive examination is necessary, as well as having corneal measurements. This examination is necessary to be sure that your eyes are healthy. Contact lenses are considered a medical device and require proper fitting, instruction, and follow-up care. Our physicians require yearly eye examinations for our contact lens wearers.
CONTACT LENS FITTING
The goal of contact lens fitting is to find the most appropriate contact lens for comfort and vision. We are committed to taking the time and effort involved to be sure your contact lens fitting is a success. Many patients require several appointments to properly fit lenses.
INSERTION AND REMOVAL INSTRUCTION
During this appointment, our ophthalmic assistant will provide you with both written and verbal instruction for insertion, removal, and care of your lenses. Upon completion of this appointment, you may begin wearing your lenses and we will schedule your first follow up appointment, normally in one week.
FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENT
One or more appointments are required for completion of the fitting, depending on the type of lens, your prescription, your visual acuity, and the comfort of your lens.
ORDERING CONTACT LENSES
Contact lenses can be ordered any time after the fitting is complete. You can order your contact lenses through our office, or from one of the reputable contact lens order companies. For the health of your eyes, we will not refill contact lens prescriptions that are more than one year old. Written prescriptions will be given at your request as long as the prescription is current.
