We accept most medical insurance plans, including all Medicaid Salud programs. We do NOT accept any vision plans, though you are free to file any vision plan claims on your own. We are willing to help in any way we can with your medical insurance, but we simply cannot know every policy of all insurance plans. It is each patient’s responsibility to know what his or her plan requires. Also, many of the plans have different claims addresses based on the group plan, so we will ask to copy your insurance card at each visit.
Remember that many insurance plans now require a prior approval or referral from your primary care provider before we can see you. We try to remind patients about necessary referrals, but we expect each patient to know when their plan requires a referral. We know how confusing this can be. If you have any questions, or need any help, please call us. Although the insurance plans require patients to get their own referrals, we will be happy to assist in any way we can. We can help advocate when dealing with your insurance company.
However, we do not set the copay, benefits or other requirements of your plan. We are here to help you get through the insurance process. We will file your insurance for you for all covered services. We do not expect you to pay first and then wait for your insurance to reimburse you. However, we do appreciate your efforts to make sure your insurance pays in a timely manner. If we are not contracted with your insurance, we can file the claim for you as a non-contracted or out-of-network provider. In that case, we expect payment at the time of service, and the insurance company will reimburse you directly.
We require payment at the time of your visit for any services or charges that your insurance does not cover. With the exception of some plans, insurances do not cover the cost of refractions, contact lenses or topography. The refraction is part of the exam when we check you for a glasses prescription. Topography is a measurement of the front part of the eye done to determine the proper contact lens fit and the long-term effect of contact lens wear. We will collect payment at the time of service for those items as well as any co-payments required by your insurance plan. In addition to cash and personal checks, we accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express.
